About the Artist
My name is Jill Kavanaugh, and I am an artist based in Kamloops, BC.
My primary medium includes calligraphy pens, Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens, and paper,
although I also enjoy working with acrylic paints. My artistic focus is on abstract art
and Zendalas, where I explore abstract concepts, shading, and the meditative practice
of creating intricate patterns.
My journey as an artist has been shaped by the inspiration of my grandmother and mother,
both of whom were talented realism painters. I am self-taught and have developed my own unique approach, allowing my imagination to guide the creation of abstract shapes without being constrained by technical precision.
Currently, I am working on a project that involves hosting workshops to teach people about Zendalas and mandalas, focusing on their meditative benefits and how to create art from
the heart without expectations.
This project is inspired by my grandmother’s legacy, as she was not only a skilled artist but also a generous and practical soul. Born in 1928, she worked in a bakery as a young girl, delivering baked goods after school. I feel a deep responsibility to honor her memory through my own art practice.
While my grandmother’s work was rooted in realism, my passion lies in abstract art and zendalas. Through my workshops, I aim to inspire creativity, mindfulness, and self-expression, helping others find peace and joy in the process of making art.
